Ottawa, ON – June 9, 2019 – At 7 p.m. tonight the grand total of $9,713,300 was announced on the CHEO Telethon on CTV. This total is an accumulation of a year of giving. From kids donating their birthday money to major sponsors supporting events and a host of community fundraising, the message is clear – the residents of Ottawa and Gatineau care deeply for the children and youth at CHEO.
From May 27 – June 9 people were encouraged to visit www.cheotelethon.com where they could watch six touching videos that featured CHEO families. Thanks to our generous corporate community all online donations were matched, ensuring every gift has double the impact!
“The CHEO Telethon on CTV is a beloved event for our community,” said Kevin Keohane, CHEO Foundation President and CEO. “Every year we have courageous children who are willing to share their story and take us on their journey. To watch Carissa stand from her wheelchair and proudly take steps on camera is a moment I won’t forget. It’s moments like these and many more that are made possible thanks to the generosity of sponsors and the multitude of donors who took a moment to either donate online or call in to the live broadcast.”
Because of this incredible financial support, programs at CHEO will be funded and strengthened. Programs like the psychosocial team helping oncology patients and their families work through the stress of a diagnosis and the ups and downs of treatment. It will help purchase up-to-date equipment that is specialized for a pediatric institution that sees kids in all shapes and sizes and it will fund cutting-edge research that will give more answers and options to children here in our region and around the world.
From grassroots giving to corporate philanthropy this community has once again made the CHEO Telethon a success, ensuring that CHEO is here to create more possibilities for the children, youth and families in our region. Together we are helping each child live their best life.
