Caring community comes together virtually to create a stronger CHEO

Ottawa, ON – June 6, 2021 – At 7 p.m. tonight the grand fundraising total of $10,911,926 was announced on the CHEO Telethon on CTV Ottawa. This final total is an accumulation of a year of community giving – a year in which our region showed their unwavering dedication to CHEO, despite a global pandemic. In these trying times, CHEO turned to the community to give what they could, and the support was heartwarming. In times of need, we can proudly say that we are Stronger Together.

From May 24 to June 6, people were encouraged to visit www.cheotelethon.com where they could watch six touching videos that featured CHEO families. Thanks to our generous corporate community all online donations were matched, ensuring every gift has double the impact.

“Here at CHEO there is a team of dedicated health professionals working with incredible expertise, focus, passion and calm to handle the day-to-day needs of children, youth and families. The doctors, nurses, administrators, facility workers, volunteers and everyone who continues to work grueling hours under tremendous pressure are deserving of our thanks and everlasting respect,” said Kevin Keohane, CHEO Foundation President and CEO. “But it is my privilege to recognize another group of heroes for CHEO – our community of donors whose generosity built CHEO into a world-class healthcare facility. The ongoing support provided to CHEO has enabled us to be prepared for these challenging times and be ready for what may come in the future. Today’s telethon result illustrates that our community continues to hold a very special place in its heart for CHEO and the kids and families we serve.”

This incredible financial support allows CHEO to serve the 500,000 children and youth who will need programs and services in the coming year. It will allow CHEO to provide life-saving treatments, purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment and conduct world-class research to benefit children, youth and families. While navigating unprecedented times, the people in our region have once again made the CHEO Telethon a success. Together we are creating a stronger community and a stronger CHEO.
