About the Role
The Officer, Community Engagement manages a portfolio of new and existing community engagement partners and acts as a liaison between CHEO Foundation and the community, helping to build meaningful relationships, strengthen community presence, and create positive experiences for partners, participants, and donors.
The role is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new community engagement partners, while also stewarding existing relationships and supporting successful community-led fundraising initiatives. Working in collaboration with colleagues, volunteers, and hospital and Foundation staff, the Officer helps deliver community engagement initiatives that support the Foundation’s strategic priorities, including engaging with new and diverse communities.
About You
You are passionate about fundraising and enjoy building authentic donor and partner relationships. You have a strong interest in community engagement and are energized by connecting people to CHEO Foundation and the impact of their support. You are outgoing, professional, and relationship-oriented, and you are comfortable representing the Foundation in the community, including speaking at events and engaging with diverse audiences.
You are self-motivated, highly organized, and comfortable working independently while managing multiple priorities. You are a strong project manager who can coordinate community fundraising initiatives, steward relationships thoughtfully, and ensure important details are followed through consistently. You play a key role in implementing the Foundation’s community engagement strategy by building strong connections in the community and helping translate strategic priorities into meaningful action. You are adaptable, flexible, and open to evening and weekend work as required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identify, research, cultivate, and solicit new and existing community engagement partners, including supporting the Foundation’s strategic plan by engaging and creating opportunities in new communities to grow awareness, participation, and fundraising outcomes
- Manage a portfolio of community fundraising partners through the full relationship cycle, including outreach, fundraising support, stewardship, renewal, and ongoing relationship management
- Act as a liaison between CHEO Foundation and community partners, representing the Foundation in a professional, engaging, and relationship-focused manner
- Plan, coordinate, and attend community fundraising events and related activities, including developing project schedules, critical path timelines, and key deliverables to support successful execution
- Provide partners with the tools, resources, and guidance needed to deliver successful fundraising initiatives, including promotional materials, fundraising pages, impact information, event kits, and day-of support
- Carry out stewardship and donor relations activities, including preparing thank you letters, fundraising reports, gift agreements, and other partner communications that support strong ongoing relationships
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete donor and partner records in Raiser’s Edge and Asana, including contact reports, actions, notes, relationship connections, opportunities, pipeline activity, and event updates
- Collaborate with internal teams and support Foundation-wide events and initiatives, including evening and weekend work as required
- Plan, coordinate, and attend community-led fundraising events, ensuring strong execution and a positive participant experience
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- Experience in fundraising, event planning, community engagement, or a related field, with demonstrated experience managing relationships and delivering events or initiatives
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with community partners, donors, or partners, with a focus on strong service and engagement Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and details with consistency and accuracy
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify opportunities, support initiatives, and contribute to community engagement approaches Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including confidence in public speaking and representing an organization in community settings
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of a portfolio or projects, and follow through on commitments with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records and data, with experience using CRM systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge) and project management tools (e.g., Asana)
- Access to a vehicle (required)
- Bilingualism (English and French) strongly preferred
