Abou the Role
The Manager, Event Communications plays a key role in bringing the CHEO Foundation signature fundraising events and community initiatives to life through compelling storytelling, strategic marketing, and impactful engagement. This position is accountable for developing and executing integrated communication strategies that enhance awareness, drive participation, and support revenue targets for signature events and community fundraising initiatives. The Manager provides leadership and direction for event communications planning, ensuring alignment with Foundation strategy, brand standards, and fundraising objectives. The Manager may supervise communications staff, contractors, or agency partners and is accountable for performance, workflow prioritization, and delivery standards.
Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Manager collaborates closely with the events teams to deliver creative, high-quality communications products that elevate the Foundation’s brand and mission.

Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Event Communications Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of integrated communications and marketing strategies for signature and community fundraising events. Translate organizational and campaign priorities into actionable communications plans with defined KPIs.
- Align event communications with Foundation brand, messaging, fundraising strategy, and revenue targets.
Creative Direction and Content Development
- Oversee creative direction, messaging, and production of event collateral, signage, and promotional materials across print and digital platforms.
- Develop compelling event storytelling including invitations, scripts, donor spotlights, digital assets, and social content.
- Ensure brand consistency and quality across all event communications and touchpoints.
- Collaborate with designers, photographers, videographers, and external partners to capture and showcase impact.
Cross Functional Planning and Event Integration
- Partner with Events, Development, Digital, and Leadership teams to integrate communications into event planning and revenue strategies.
- Lead communications timelines, workflow prioritization, and vendor coordination to ensure on time and on budget delivery.
- Provide onsite support during events as required.
Digital Engagement, Performance and Stewardship
- Drive event engagement through email, web, media, and social channels.
- Set performance benchmarks and monitor campaign metrics to optimize engagement and fundraising outcomes.
- Prepare post event reporting and apply insights to continuous improvement.
- Manage assigned event communications budgets and vendor contracts with responsible stewardship of donor resources.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven success in developing and executing communications strategies (internal, external and onsite/route) for large-scale events.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with an eye for tone and detail.
- Strong project management skills; adept at managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects, vendors, and potentially staff or contractors.
- Experience managing communications budgets and performance metrics.
- Familiarity with donor relations and fundraising best practices is an asset.
- Experience in a not for profit, healthcare, or fundraising environment is an asset.
