About the Role

The Writer is responsible for researching, writing, and editing philanthropy proposals, case statements, donor communications and fundraising materials that align with the CHEO Foundation’s strategic goals. This role requires excellent storytelling ability, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the healthcare and non-profit fundraising landscape.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Write persuasive and tailored proposals to inspire giving
  • Develop compelling case statements and impact reports for fundraising campaigns and initiatives
  • Gather accurate information and create narratives that reflect top priorities and inspire potential donors
  • Manage deadlines and ensure timely submissions
  • Research potential funding opportunities and align proposals with funder guidelines and interests
  • Work closely with the Foundation Liaison to maintain and update a library of standard content, templates, and boilerplate language
  • Edit and proofread various donor-facing materials for clarity, tone, and impact
  • Assist with the creation of a variety of content pieces: newsletters, speeches, web copy, social media copy, video scripts, and marketing materials
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to gather necessary information and align project goals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Health, or related field
  • Understanding of philanthropy and fundraising principles
  • Experienced in academic writing: editing and reviewing research grants, proposals, and reports
  • Knowledge of successful grant application procedures and granting agency requirements
  • Familiarity with the healthcare environment
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex ideas for a variety of audiences
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills
  • Strong conceptual and critical thinking skills
  • Outstanding organizational, accountability and time-management skills
  • Strong ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Familiarity with fundraising and the philanthropic landscape within the healthcare sector
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor databases (e.g., Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM)
