When Your Child Has Cancer – Nothing Else Matters
You can help kids with cancer get back to living their best lives
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month.
But, for 500 kids and families at CHEO, cancer is a harsh reality.
Your gift today will bring immediate help to these kids and their families – which is even better than awareness!
Will you provide the very best in customized care to kids?
You’ll help active kids like Parker, and parents like Stephanie and Matt.
When Parker’s mom, Stephanie, heard the word cancer… her heart shattered.
What started as a small bump on Parker’s leg… quickly escalated to a bone cancer diagnosis.
Parker’s cancer was aggressive. He needed surgery to remove part of his leg. The team at CHEO wanted to give Parker the very best chance at continuing his active childhood – especially his love of hockey.
They suggested a ‘limb-saving’ surgery called “rotationplasty” where a portion of the leg is removed, including the knee. The ankle is then used to replace the knee joint, and the foot fits into a prosthetic lower leg.
Parker received his life-changing surgery in January 2023! He’s back to living life as an active 10-year old boy, including playing hockey again.
Your gift today will help other kids just like Parker, in hospital right now. You can help purchase these essential pieces of equipment:
- Blanket Warmer $8,500 — Warm blankets give young patients both physical and emotional comfort during long treatment sessions.
- Bladder Scanner $15,000 — Help patients avoid the discomfort of catheterization by using this non-invasive device. You’ll preserve their dignity and reduce the risk of infection too.
- Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor $18,000 — These monitors provide continuous blood pressure data over long sampling periods with increased comfort for children and youth.
Will you provide the very best in customized care to kids?
You can also help with further important cancer research projects underway to discover better, more customized cancer treatments for kids.
Tomorrow, three more Canadian families will hear, “Your child has cancer.” Will you be the reason their story ends like Parker’s – with a child back on the ice, living their best life? Make your gift today to help more kids like Parker.
