Volunteers play a critical role in helping the CHEO Foundation support the important work being done at CHEO. In addition to having a great time in your volunteer role, you will also meet new people, discover skills you never knew you had, all while helping support CHEO’s doctors, nurses and staff as they work to let every CHEO patient live their best life.

Volunteers help out in so many ways. From general office support and helping out at CHEO Foundation special events, to donning the CHEO Bear mascot costume to the delight of kids and families.

Of note, all new volunteers are asked to submit a Police Records Check. For more information visit the Ottawa Police Services website.

Here are some of the volunteer opportunities available at the CHEO Foundation:

CN Cycle Volunteers

May 5, 2019

The CN Cycle for CHEO is a fun, non-competitive event that offers a wide range of cycling (15K, 35K, 70K) and walking (2K, 5K) routes for people of all ages and abilities while raising funds for kids with cancer. Our fully-supported urban cycling routes will be closed to traffic and will offer a unique opportunity for individuals, groups and families to safely cycle along Ottawa’s most scenic corridors.

Teddy Bears’ Picnic Volunteer

June 22, 2019

Various volunteer roles are available.

CHEO Bear

This is a fun volunteer role for students! You can help put a smile on a child’s face by being CHEO Bear at CHEO Foundation events.  We are looking for kid friendly, fun loving personalities to entertain the crowds and take photos with kids!  And remember….CHEO Bear doesn’t talk; he gestures to communicate.  Volunteers are expected to work 1-3 hour shifts depending on the event.

This is an ongoing volunteer role with different dates throughout the year, as required.

Apply to be CHEO Bear

CHEO Telethon

June 8 and 9, 2019

The annual CHEO Telethon raises funds to help support the work of the CHEO. Donations help the hospital provide a wide variety of pediatric programs, research, state-of the art equipment, medical and nursing education, and assistance to families in crisis.

Various volunteer roles are available.

RBC Race for the Kids Volunteer
